Glass: Shyamalan's Threequel Gets First Teaser Trailer

The first teaser trailer for M. Night Shyamalan's latest film has just been released, featuring James McAvoy looking broody as ever through the pane of a smashed window. Coming as the sequel to 2016's Split, which in turn was a surprise sequel to 2000's Unbreakable, Glass is set to combine the two film's universes into one all-encompassing feature, effectively turning the movies into an interconnected trilogy.

The narrative of Glass is somewhat secretive at the moment, but we do have a general overview to go by:

Following the conclusion of Split, Glass find Dunn [Bruce Willis] pursuing Crumb’s [James McAvoy] superhuman figure of The Beast in a series of escalating encounters, while the shadowy presence of Price [Samuel L. Jackson] emerges as an orchestrator who holds secrets critical to both men.

Also reprising their roles from previous films will be Anna Taylor-Joy as the only survivor of Kevin's demonic personality, The Beast, and the families of both David Dunn and Elijah Price, importantly also referred to as 'Mr. Glass.' The cast will also include Sarah Paulson, the acclaimed actress playing a psychiatrist who specialises in those that believe they have superpowers that treats the trio together at a mental hospital.

We can only assume from the continued glass imagery, the name of the film, and Jackson's intrinsic involvement in the marketing material means we're getting a film heavily centred on the conniving villain of Unbreakable. Just how dastardly his plot will be this time around is yet to be revealed, but with an inhuman monster in Kevin's deadly personality The Beast and a worthy adversary in David Dunn - we can safely assume it's going to be explosive.

The teaser isn't much to go by at the moment other than for setting an intriguing tone to the movie, showcasing McAvoy in various states of emotional unrest and remaining focussed on his intense gaze through a broken pane of glass. It's almost like he's looking into our very souls from the other side of the screen - and with a warning that 'the beast is coming any minute now', it's ominous to say the least.

Glass is set for release on January 18, 2019, and a full trailer will be unveiled on Friday.
