5. Mechagodzilla Breaks Anguirus' Jaw (Godzilla Vs. Mechagodzilla)
Even the most intense Godzilla movies aren't very violent or gory. Nearly all the violence is monster on monster, which makes it fantastical enough that it never gets too intense. Sometimes, though, you get a moment so brutal that it could potentially traumatize a fresh young kaiju-enthusiastic mind. Such a moment happens in the original Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla, and it happens to one of the most sympathetic monsters of the series. When Mechagodzilla arrives disguised as Godzilla, his best friend Anguirus arrives to see what's going on. Anguirus, always the under dog, tries his best against the imposter, but Mechagodzilla proves to be too strong. So strong, in fact, that he proceeds to pry poor Anguirus' mouth apart to the point where he breaks his jaw and bleeds profusely. Again, Godzilla movies tend not to be too bloody, but this horrifying act of brutality hits so hard and fast that it can genuinely shock a new viewer. What makes it even worse is that it happens to Anguirus, who is the equivalent of Godzilla's puppy dog sidekick. The idea of Anguirus thinking that his friend did that to him is just sad. And don't think that just because it is depicted through suitmation that it somehow lacks intensity. After having his jaws broken, you hear what is obviously Anguirus' roars of pain and agony when he retreats. It's bloody, it's brutal, and it comes out of nowhere, making for a moment so shocking your only thought upon viewing it is "WTF!?"
