Godzilla: 20 Mind-Blowing Facts You Didn't Know
8. What Colour Is Godzilla?
If you ask a hundred people what colour Godzilla is, I guarantee that nearly every one of them will say he is green. However, Godzilla's skin is charcoal grey.
So if that's the case, why do so many people think it's green?
When King Kong VS Godzilla was released in 1962, it was the first time that Godzilla officially appeared in colour. And what colour was he?
Grey. However, grey isn't a bright colour, so the producers decided to make Godzilla look green on the poster so he would stand out more. As a result, many people who didn't watch the film assumed Godzilla was green. This misconception was solidified further when he was coloured green in the 1978 Hanna-Barbera cartoon, Godzilla.
So, has Godzilla ever been green in the films? Yes. He was green in Godzilla Millennium and Godzilla vs Megaguirus.
But that's it! Despite being grey in 33 films (Including every American adaptation) people still have it drilled into their heads that Godzilla is green. Isn't that crazy? The most famous kaiju in movie history and the majority of viewers can't even remember what colour he is!
