Godzilla: 20 Mind-Blowing Facts You Didn't Know

7. Godzilla VS King Ghidorah Makes A Nod To Steven Spielberg

Once a franchise has exhausted every idea, a story about time-travel is inevitable. X-Men did it. The Marvel Cinematic Universe. And when the filmmakers of Godzilla were prepping the 18th film in the franchise, they decided the story should revolve around a time machine.

In the film, Godzilla vs King Ghidorah, it is explained that a dinosaur was exposed to a nuclear blast in 1944, which caused it to turn into Godzilla. If someone goes back in time and stops this dinosaur from being exposed to the nuclear energy, Godzilla will never exist.

When the time-travelers travel to the 1940s, a soldier sees them and worries that they may be aliens. The captain snaps at him by saying, “What? We’re being invaded by little green men from outer space? Let’s just keep it as our little secret. You can tell it to your son when he’s born… Major Spielberg”.

This character is supposed to be Steven Spielberg’s father and this story is meant to inspire the movies, E.T. and Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

Also, it's worth mentioning that Spielberg’s father, Arnold, did serve in WWII. However, he probably didn't see any time-travellers while he was on duty. Probably.
