Godzilla: King Of The Monsters IMAX Review - 7 Ups & 4 Downs
1. Literally Everyone Is An Idiot
To a certain extent, action movies HAVE to make sure that there's never too much logic among its human characters so that they make reckless, entertaining decisions, but King Of The Monsters occasionally makes a Michael Bay movie look cerebral. And it's mostly because every human character - ESPECIALLY the scientists - are idiots. Sure, they're high-functioning, but there's barely a braincell between them.
If there are several options and one of them is the absolutely wild ravings of a dangerously volatile mind, you can guarantee that that's the one this group of characters will go for. They mostly learn absolutely nothing, they continue to do idiotic things and their idea of battle strategy is from the Field Manual Of Leeroy Jenkins.
There's a character who has to have been through major training and who will be one of the world's premium brains and scientific authorities who is adamant of the truth of the Hollow Earth theory. There's a military leader who is basically Zap Brannigan from Futurama in his commitment to throwing cannon fodder at the kaiju and pretty much everyone talks like they're auditioning for a T-Shirt slogan writer job. At some point, you'll begin to wish just one person would do anything even vaguely sensible.
And now to the positives...
