7. It Is EXACTLY What A Monster Movie Should Be

And no, that's not a criticism. There's a tendency among critics to sneer at genre movies (it's implied in every amazed reaction to any horror movie that somehow manages to be anything above mediocre) and even those who love King Of The Monsters will probably say something implying that it is "only" a monster movie.

But if Sharknado has taught us anything, guys, it should be that making monster movies is not all that easy. Or at least making them well isn't. And there's no reason anyone should look down on any genre simply because of the subject matter. What makes a human drama any more worthy of praise than something pitting two colossal titans against each other with the balance of the Earth's eco-system at stake?

Crucially, Godzilla: King Of The Monsters delivers on absolutely everything anyone coming in to watch a monster movie could ever want. It gleefully celebrates the legends of monster movie history almost as if presenting them in a professional wrestling Royal Rumble situation. The action is all stunningly good, the spectacle is amazing and it's genuinely like watching a classic Toho but with the technical details dialled up to the limit. Why wouldn't you love that if you already love Godzilla?
