Godzilla Trailer: 10 Most Epic Moments

7. Origin Of Species

Next we hear Ken Watanabe€™s character talk about how they awakened Godzilla back in 1954. This, of course, is the year the original film was released, so it is a nice callback to the origins of the franchise. We see a bomb being loaded with a Godzilla-esqe symbol on it, followed by a great daytime shot of Godzilla€™s spikes breaking through the water on an island. And of course, you can€™t have a Godzilla origin movie without an atomic explosion. We hear that the atomic bomb testing in the Pacific back in the 50s was actually an attempt to kill Godzilla. Obviously, it didn€™t work.
What is great about this plot tidbit is that it deliberately ties this reboot to the original film. Whether the original attack on Tokyo actually took place in this universe or it is just a nice tie in is not known. What we do know is that Godzilla has existed for 60 years without the world knowing. Who covered it up and how is an intriguing and unexpected plot point. More importantly, what has Godzilla been doing for 60 years? Hibernating? If so, what woke him up?
