Godzilla Vs. Kong Review: 6 Ups & 4 Downs
2. It Wastes A Strong Cast
The knock-on effect of the underwhelming script is that all those actors hired to play the many human characters are given precious little to do.
As the two human leads, the supremely talented Alexander SkarsgÄrd and Rebecca Hall try their damnedest, but their scientist characters aren't much more than plot-spouting cardboard cutouts.
Elsewhere the brilliant Millie Bobby Brown is trapped in a rickety subplot with the aforementioned dopey characters played by Henry and Dennison, squandering all three fine actors in the process.
But the most egregiously wasted actors are surely Kyle Chandler, who reappears for a glorified extended cameo as Madison's (Brown) father Mark, and the great Lance Reddick, who shows up for literally seconds as a member of Monarch.
In the latter case, we can probably assume director Adam Wingard wanted to throw Reddick a bone after working with him on his prior cult action film The Guest. Still, it's incredible that so many skilled actors make such little impact here.
