While Gareth Edwards' Godzilla was criticised for its lack of action and the sequel was lambasted for its choppy, scarcely coherent monster mayhem, Godzilla vs. Kong delivers by far the most entertaining, exciting, and visually appealing action of the entire MonsterVerse.

The two major fights between Godzilla and Kong are spectacular, sustained sequences with minimal cutaways to human characters, while there are also additional action beats peppered throughout, ahead of a frankly insane final battle.

It's tough to imagine any fan of these characters feeling short-changed by the set-pieces on offer, which make it clear beyond any doubt that Wingard, a filmmaker best known for his lower-budget horror and thriller films, has the chops to deliver a quality tentpole flick.
