Godzilla Vs. Kong Review: 6 Ups & 4 Downs

3. It's Superbly Paced

Despite its excess of human characters and pointless dramatic subplots, Godzilla vs. Kong benefits immeasurably from its snappy pace, and the fact that at 113 minutes long, it's the shortest of all the MonsterVerse films to date.

Wingard ensures to never stick in one place for too long, such that even the more tedious moments are over relatively quickly, and we're back to the CGI-fuelled carnage once again soon enough.

It's certainly clear that the film was whittled down in post-production considering that Zhang Ziyi and Jessica Henwick's roles were cut entirely, and also that the son of Dr. Serizawa (Ken Watanabe), played by Shun Oguri, is introduced so suddenly here that there's evidently some material missing.

But it's mostly for the best - nobody needed another 20 minutes of flat human drama, while ensuring the monsters are basically given as much screen time as the people.
