Natalie Portman and Ron Howard came to the stage to present the Best Director Golden Globe, giving Portman a ripe moment to register her displeasure at not a single woman being nominated for the award this year, or most years in fact.

Portman introduced the five directors by saying, "And here are the all male nominees...", which caused quite the stir on social media, with some criticising Portman for "needlessly shaming" the five directors, while others celebrated her for drawing attention to the lack of high-profile woman filmmakers in Hollywood.

Considering that Ridley Scott was nominated for decent if fairly unremarkable work directing All the Money in the World while Greta Gerwig wasn't even nominated despite scoring universal acclaim for her direction of Lady Bird, it was easy to see why Portman was so miffed, and she put her point across with admirable ferocity.
