Golden Globes 2019: 8 Ups & 7 Downs
6. Carole Burnett & Jeff Bridges' Honorary Awards
In addition to the usual Cecil B. DeMille Award, 2019 saw the introduction of a second honorary Golden Globe, the Carol Burnett Award, honouring a recipient's accomplishments in the world of television.
Naturally, the inaugural winner was variety TV legend Burnett herself, delivering a heartfelt acceptance speech which humbly tipped the hat to luck and good timing as much as her obvious talents. In the age of #MeToo, foregrounding the achievements of a feminist trailblazer made all the sense in the world.
As for the Cecile B. DeMille Award? It went to Jeff Bridges this year for his incredible body of work, and though his speech was perhaps a little rambly, it exuded his usual laid-back charm and saw him amusingly pay tribute to his career-long stand-in and stunt double Loyd Catlett, who has worked with him for 45 years.
