Gravity: 10 Reasons It's One Of 2013's Crowning Achievements

2. Not A Second Is Wasted

Movies are more often than not simply the sum of their parts, and while there are clearly a lot of parts, bells, and whistles to Gravity, with that comes a lot that can go wrong. Gravity knows how to not waste time by throwing viewers into the fire and knowing how to keep that experience paced to unprecedented heights of exhilaration. Even tougher, it knows when to temporarily break the action for some plot exposition, and how long that exposition should last before cranking the intensity back up to 11. Perhaps even more commendable, though, is just how memorable and distinct each perilous situation is from the last. We are now 24 hours removed from my theatrical experience with Gravity, and I can recite every set piece in my head crystal clear, which is something I can€™t say for many films released today. I would equate the flow and swiftly tense pacing to Terminator 2, which is another movie where every big sequence is shot with a clear vision that seamlessly flows from scene to scene.
