Gravity: 10 Out Of This World Things You Might Have Missed

1. There€™s An After Credits Sting (Sort Of)

Opening2 In these sort of lists it€™s customary to end on the sneaky little post-credit sting, expected in every blockbuster since Iron Man turned a solely geek pastime into something franchise building, but you wouldn't be expecting one with Gravity. Well, of course given it's a list entry, you€™d be wrong. Cuarón€™s always edged towards creative credits; The Prisoner Of Azkaban was the only real one of the series to use the credits in some creative manner, taking the Marauders Map as inspiration for a plethora of in-jokes. Children Of The Men went more cultured with the final line from T.S. Eliot€™s The Wasteland, highlighting Shantih (Hindi for peace), emotively rounding off the film. It€™s in between these two different motivations that Gravity's sting falls. Following general radio noises near the end you can clearly hear €˜3, 2, 1, mark€™. Those particularly interested in the religious subtext could (and have) easily take this as proof of space€™s spiritual nature (Mark 3:12 is the silence inducing €œBut he gave them strict orders not to tell others about him.€), but that€™s a real misappropriation of space jargon. A popular (and more believable) theory is that it€™s Clooney€™s Kowalski€™s final sign off (it€™s not a stretch to imagine he lasted that long), but until the DVD comes out and we can pour over the audio it remains speculation. What do you think the final line means? Any more hidden gems that even we missed? Head down to the comments and let us know.
