Gremlins Reboot: 10 Reasons We'd Rather Stare At Bright Lights

4. The Creature Design Will Probably Be "Improved"

Creepy

Problem: Look really hard at that image above, better yet look at it here. I grew up with this film, and that photo, with its original dimensions, still freaks me out. The Gremlins were actually scary in the original film, thanks to their darker coloring, those creepy eyes, and the rather rough texture/nature of their skin. They weren't designed for cuddly merchandising, in fact as I recall, I had a Stripe figure that was pretty pointy for a plastic toy. You're not supposed to hug a Gremlin, you're supposed to destroy it. The creatures were merely designed to make sure our survival instincts kicked in. If They HAVE To...: ...keep the designs the way they were, period. Gremlins 2 already softened them up a little by shading them in a lighter green and removing most of the jagged qualities of their skin. To make the design any more friendly would merely embarrass whomever decided to do so, and would dishonor the actual original concept. At least when they did it for the sequel, they had an excuse because it was more of a comedy. You don't have that luxury.
