The Universal Church of Truth was the most frequent group of foes the Guardians faced in the 2008 run. This cosmic ministry runs on the energy created through the faith of its followers. The Church tries its best to conjure up mad prophecies and make them reality. This usually creates cataclysmic results that threaten to tear a hole in space and time. The Guardians went to battle with the Church in the very first issue, but their victory proved to only be temporary. The Universal Church of Truth caused big trouble in the universe, resurrecting Thanos after the Mad Titan had been slain by Drax the Destroyer. With Thanos appearing in James Gunn's film, perhaps that connection can be explored. The Guardians of the Galaxy movie already has its protagonist in Ronan the Accuser. The Universal Church of Truth could very easily be saved for another movie, but it would be great to see them at least referenced in the first film. Perhaps Peter Quill could talk about a time he went up against them while he was becoming that "legendary outlaw" everyone should have already heard of.
