Cosmo, the Russian, telepathic space dog was a fixture of Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning's 2008 comic book run on Guardians of the Galaxy. He was the head of security at Knowhere, the intergalactic space space station that served as the team's unofficial headquarters. Between his accent and inability to completely overcome his canine urges, Cosmo is a lovable character. As a dog, Cosmo is obviously a natural rival for Rocket Raccoon. Any interaction between the two of them is usually good for a laugh. Then again, the presence of a talking Raccoon might make the addition of a mind-talking dog feel like a bit too much. If it's just a cameo, however, then there should not be much of a problem. Cosmo does not have to be a prominently featured character in the first film or any of its potential sequels. The team is going to be on Knowhere at some point in the movie, though, and a quick shot of a dog, named or not, in astronaut gear would be enough of a nod to the character to appease most fans. It would also be an amusing sight for the average moviegoer who has no idea of any additional meaning.
