Guardians Of The Galaxy: 10 Potential Roles For Nathan Fillion
3. Quasar
Wendell Vaughn has been a huge part of the Marvel universe for years, but was one of the first cosmic level heroes that people could actually relate to, in a universe filled with larger-than-life characters like Silver Surfer, Thanos, and Ego the Living Planet. Wendell started his career as a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, albeit one without the 'killer instinct' most assumed was needed as an agent. During an attack on a S.H.I.E.L.D. facility by A.I.M. that Wendell was stationed at, he was forced to don the cosmic Nega-Bands the facility was examining. These Nega-Bands allow the wearer to create solid-light constructs, similar to DC's Green Lantern. The difference between GL and Quasar is that the Nega-Bands require a flexible will to operate or else the power would consume the wearer, whereas with GL a strong and determined will is needed. Fillion could fill the shoes of Wendell Vaughn easily, and portray the everyman hero as such. With the developing cosmic side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Quasar's role as Protector of the Universe is sure to come into play at some point, and would make for an excellent stinger after Guardians of the Galaxy. Quasar is also an Avenger, further tying the seemingly separate worlds of the Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy. Wendell plays a fairly important part in various galactic storylines like Operation: Galactic Storm, Annihilation, and the Infinity Gauntlet, which the MCU is clearly leading us towards. Fillion could very well lead the next phase of cosmic films after the Guardians of the Galaxy as the Protector of Universe, Quasar.
