1. To Really Leave DC/Warner Brothers Behind
Warner Bros.As things stand, Marvel Studios (and indeed other Marvel movie-producing companies like Fox and Sony) have left DC and Warner Brothers lagging a million miles behind when it comes to their movies. DC have had relative success in the past - what with a large number of Batman and Superman movies, in particular, performing very well critically and financially - but they have never really got a full universe going and the current attempt is only one movie in (although there is a long-term plan now). If Marvel can pull this movie off, it'll be next level stuff and it will leave DC and Warner Brothers feeling almost insignificant and medieval when it comes to their projects. DC have always played it safe with their movies - and, even then, it hasn't always worked (hello, Green Lantern) - so for Marvel, who are already stomping them in to the ground in the movie world, to have the audacity to pull something as elaborate as Guardians of the Galaxy off would almost be like they were taking the pi** out of of their most fierce comic book rivals.
