Guardians Of The Galaxy 2 - 10 Things We Want To See
2. Thanos Actually Doing Something
Kevin Feige recently compared Thanos to Emperor Palpatine. He was trying to convey that the two share the similarity of being teased over the course of several films before becoming the "big bad" of the climactic storyline... but what he was reallysaying is that Thanos, like Palpatine, just sits on a throne all day and does nothing. We've seen him twice in the MCU so far. At the end of The Avengers, he served as an exciting tease for the big things to come. In Guardians, however, he does absolutely nothing but boss Ronan around, and he even fails at that, as Ronan quickly learns that Thanos isn't all that powerful without the Infinity Gems, and decides to disobey him. What we really need to see out of the Guardians sequel, even more so than additional characters and cameos, is Thanos as an actual threat. It's understandable that Feige wants to build Thanos up as the massive threat for the Avengers to face in their third outing (which will likely serve as a Guardians/Avengers team-up), but we need to see how formidable he is before we get there. Otherwise, the buildup will feel useless and his badassery will ultimately be undercut. So far, Thanos has failed to get his hands on any of the Infinity Gems. Perhaps he should stop trusting the likes of other villains like Loki and Ronan, and get his own hands dirty.
