What was ultimately the biggest and most obvious tease for future Guardians films was the mention of Peter Quill's father. Those teases serve as bookends to the film, first when his mother mentions how he was an angel of light and then later, when Yondu and the other Ravagers comment that they were supposed to deliver Quill to his dad when they took him from Earth. That means his father, who the Nova Corps say is something ancient they have never seen before, is still out there. So, who could he be? If you look to the comics, the answer is simple. Peter Quill's father is J'Son, the emperor of the planet Spartax. However, Gunn appears to be taking some liberties with Quill's father's identity, as he told Badass Digest that only four people know of his identity. Since there are definitely more than four comic book readers out there, it's clear that the story about J'Son won't be as simple as we thought. Additionally, when speaking with /Film about his ideas for a sequel, Gunn said:
"I know a lot of where I want to go. I have a lot of ideas for stories and characters that are going to appear, and there are documents written up, that some people have, about Peter Quill's father and his relationship, a lot of stuff about Yondu and a lot of stuff about Drax that nobody knows. There are a lot of things that are part of the overall schematic that already exist, not to mention a lot of stuff about all of the cultures. There's a lot of stuff about Xandarian and Kree culture that I've written down or I have in my head, as well as Krylorians and Ravagers."
So, we'll definitelybe seeing the mystery around Quill's father unfold. The only question is, who in the vast Marvel cosmic universe could it be?! Tell us, what would you like to see in Guardians of the Galaxy 2? As we said, there are countless characters and storylines Gunn could explore, so let us know your thoughts and predictions in the comments below, and follow James on Twitter for more movie-related articles and news.
