Guardians Of The Galaxy - 8 Easter Eggs Hidden In The New Trailer

7. Xandar And The Nova Corps

The Nova Corps play heavily into the trailer, as they're the ones who arrest Quill and the other Guardians. We only get a good look at two of them: Rhomann Dey (played by John C. Reilly) and another officer played by Peter Serafinowicz (who has the now-famous line, "What a bunch of a-holes.") In the comics, the Nova Corps is an intergalactic military/police force, mostly responsible for the protection of their homeworld Xandar. Members of the Corps can tap into an energy source called the Nova Force, which can give them powers including flight, superhuman strength, speed, the power to absorb energy, and to release energy beams. We're still not sure how big a role the Nova Corps will have in the film, or if they're mostly being set up for future films, as there's certainly enough material there to explore, especially considering the superhero Nova, who could easily get a film of his own somewhere down the line.
Xandar is mentioned and seen in the trailer; first by Rhomann Dey while reading off the rap sheets of the Guardians ("We arrested these five on Xandar"), then later shown as the location of the explosive aerial battle Quill is navigating his ship through. Xandar has fallen victim to several major attacks in the comics, one of which was a devestating one performed by one of the film's villains, Nebula (more on that in a second). So, the planet is sure to have significance in the film or at least in future installments.
