10. It Sticks To The Comics
Marvel ComicsRight off the bat, it's obvious that the character designs and the style of the universe they inhabit were pulled right from the pages of the the comic, not that this was particularly a concern. Marvel have a good track record of being faithful to the source material, but with something as left-field as Guardians, there was always the fear that they'd play it safe. The comic certainly contains some of the more bizarre elements of the Marvel Universe and in a world of demigods, cyborgs and super soldiers, that's saying something. If these elements weren't present in the movie, it would have been a shame but luckily that doesn't seem to be the case. The Nova Corps are there, uniforms intact and by the time the Guardians reach 'The Kyln', we see a whole host of colourful inmates both alien and human. From some telling dialogue, it's clear that both Yondu (as seen in the trailer played by a painted blue Michael Rooker) and the Ravagers will be key parts of the film's plot, as well as the revelation that Rocket's backstory focuses on his being a space pirate along with Groot. The details matter to the die hard Marvel fan-base and judging from the level of detail we saw in just 17 minutes, Guardians won't disappoint.
