9. It Looks Great in IMAX 3D
IMAX CorporationNot particularly to do with the film itself per se, but the footage screened was entirely rendered in IMAX 3D and looked pretty damn impressive. A pre-recorded message from director James Gunn assured us that the rest of the film is also available entirely in the format and for once, it feels like a viable option. IMAX and other 3D forms of cinema have always seemed a little too much of a fad to us. From the uncomfortable glasses you have to wear to the fact that not all of the movie you're watching is actually in 3D, we usually passed on any 3D presentations, but we may change our minds come July 31st. Gunn's aesthetic for the movie worked incredibly well with 3D and several of the shots we saw utilized it fully for both explosive and comedic purposes. It may be worth dropping the extra bit of cash to see this in 3D.
