4. It's A James Gunn Movie Too
atthamoviesWhen Gunn was named director of the movie, a lot of people got excited: he's a great talent with his own signature style and tone, and his movies Slither and Super (go see them by the way!) have garnered him a loyal group of fans of his own. Regardless, there was a vocal group who were worried Gunn's auteur touch would be lost under the Marvel machine, fears that were compounded with the more recent Edgar Wright/Ant Man fiasco, in which Wright could not come to a creative agreement with Marvel Studios and opted to leave the project altogether. Fans of Gunn can breathe a sigh of relief; Guardians can sit right alongside the rest of his work as true visions of the director. It seems that Marvel Studios specifically hired Gunn to do his thing in order to make Guardians stand out and be different from the existing Marvel films and it was a brave and clever choice. Gunn's tone sits right along with the tone of the comics and translates to, from what we saw, a kick-ass adaptation.
