Guardians Of The Galaxy Preview: 10 Things That Got Us Excited

5. The Casting Is Spot On

Walt Disney Motion PicturesMarvel StudiosWe've touched on this already with how good Rocket and Groot were, but their human Guardians teammates are all also cast to perfection. Zoe Saldana smoulders and shows vulnerability in equal measure as Gamora, daughter of the Mad Titan Thanos. Most of the prison want to kill her because of her familial relations and she projects an edge of danger whilst still remaining aware that she needs to stick with her new found allies if she wants to survive. Chris Pratt really seemed to ground proceedings as Peter Quill AKA Star Lord, the resident human of the team. He's our eyes and ears into the weird mannerisms and customs of not just the universe around him but his own incredibly odd companions. His comedy background on Parks & Recreation allows him to snipe and snark and hold his own in conversation and he projects 'unwilling leader' with competent ease. The revelation here though, is Dave Bautista as Drax The Destroyer. He got the funniest line in the sequence we saw when defending his command of metaphor and sarcasm ('Nothing goes over my head - my reflexes are too quick') and the difficult to cast role seemed to be perfectly brought to life in his hands. His dry sarcasm and comic timing were never truly appreciated by the average wrestling fan during his days with the WWE, but it seems that now he has found somewhere he can put it to great use.
