Guardians Of The Galaxy Spoilers: 10 Ways It Sets Up Future Marvel Films

1. The Infinity Gauntlet

It would be a smart move to put money that that "reveal" will take the form of a big screen adaptation of the classic comic book epic The Infinity Gauntlet. First published in 1991, this huge crossover showed us exactly what would happen if Thanos got his hands on something that would allow him to destroy the universe, and hopefully win the affections of Death in the process, like say those Infinity Stones we've been hearing about since the second Thor film (or first Cap film if you're particularly quick), which he mounts on a fancy glove and give him control over the whole of reality. Naturally for an irredeemably evil cosmic despot, his first action in wiedling this ultimate weapon is to wipe out half the population of the galaxy. It just so happens that this is the Marvel reality, which means among the dead - or rather, no longer existing - are the majority of the X-Men, Daredevil, and the Fantastic Four. All that with, literally, the click of his meaty fingers. That's...that's pretty terrifying. The Avengers didn't do too bad against the Chitauri, but that was because Hulk could smash most of them. How do you go up against a guy who can kill as fast as look at you? It certainly seems that's the doomsday scenario the Marvel Cinematic Universe is building towards. Between the introduction of Thanos and the Infinity Stones in Guardians Of The Galaxy, it's not much of a stretch to imagine the Infinity Gauntlet as the next big crossover film after Age Of Ultron. Especially because Guardians puts every other element in place to make it work: the possibilities of cosmic threats, the larger playing field of space instead of just Earth and Asgard, the mystical elements that will probably be necessary in defeating Thanos.
