Guardians Of The Galaxy Trailer: 5 Things We Learned
3. The Film Sports A Very Unique, Beautiful Visual Style
James Gunn was another surprising choice when it came to bringing this film to life; the director had up until this point only worked on smaller budget films like Super and Slither, so Marvel handing him the reigns to such a risky property was a gutsy move. Yet, it looks like they chose the right man, because this film looks beautiful. The cinematography is very akin to something like Blade Runner or Firefly; a completely immersive futuristic setting imbued with a pulpy aesthetic. The movie also sports a refreshingly balanced blend of CGI and practical effects; you can tell that these are real sets, not greenscreened backgrounds, and there appears to be a staggering amount of detail when it comes to everything from the production design to the characters themselves. Each Marvel film to date has its own visual flare, and Gunn has made something that truly stands out among the likes of Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America. Gunn took the wacky concept he'd been given and totally went for it, diving in headfirst and paying close attention to bringing this universe to life.
