Guardians Of The Galaxy 2: 8 Characters Who Could Join The Team

Who'll have the prestigious honour of joining the bunch of A-holes?

James Gunn has kept pretty quiet about his spacefaring superhero sequel Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2, but one thing he has revealed is that there will be another character joining the eponymous team of kind-hearted crooks. This, in true Internet fashion, has led to a lot of speculation. Will Gunn nab this new recruit from one of the various iterations of the Guardians team from the comics, or will he opt to bring in a different character that fans won€™t be expecting? Could it be a Marvel Cinematic Universe superhero that we€™ve seen already (like Mark Ruffalo€™s role in Thor: Ragnarok) or a perhaps one that Marvel Studios are teeing up for a future standalone film? At the moment, the combined possibilities of the massive Marvel Comics multiverse and James Gunn€™s limitless imagination mean it€™s anyone€™s guess as to who this new Guardian will be. Here are eight possible options€

8. Phyla-Vell

Phyla-Vell €“ who has gone by several superhero names including Martyr and Captain Marvel €“ is an artificially created daughter of Kree superhero Mar-Vell, the original Captain Marvel who has been dead for several years in the comics. Phyla-Vell has enhanced strength and the ability to fly, as well as less common abilities like energy projection and some €˜cosmic awareness€™ (a conscious connection to the universe, which allows her to see beyond the five normal senses). She has mucked in with the Guardians on several occasions since joining the Marvel Comics roster in 2003, and the fact that she€™s synthetic offspring to a legendary superhero could offer an interesting parallel to Gamora and Nebula€™s relation to Thanos. The fact that he€™s dead and she therefore can€™t interact with him could lead her to bond with Star-Lord, too. It isn€™t known if Phyla-Vell€™s father, Mar-Vell, exists yet in the MCU. If he does, introducing him through Phyla-Vell€™s backstory in Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 could be a good way to tee up the Carol Danvers-focused Captain Marvel movie that€™s coming in 2019.
