Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2: 10 Reasons It's Better Than The Original
6. The Opening Scene Is Phenomenal
The opening sequence to any film is incredibly important. It sets the tone for what's to follow and is tasked with the often-difficult task of capturing the audience's undivided attention. Like they say, first impressions are everything and if you fail to hook your audience within a certain amount of time, it can be very difficult to win them back.
While Peter Quill's song and dance number that opened the first film was great, Vol. 2 upped its game in this regard by factor of eleven and a half. It's entertaining, it's funny, it's action-packed, and it lovingly establishes how our protagonists have improved as both a team and as a family since we last saw them.
Peter is shown to be as charming as ever before, Gamora's attitude is still an incredibly enjoyable one, Rocket's sarcasm levels are now through the roof, and Drax gets to indulge in some hilarious chaos. Moreover, the musical aspect is still there, and even that is utilized better this time around, as Baby Groot dances along with the opening credits to Mr. Blue Sky.
This opening scene was everything it should have been and then some. Director James Gunn went on record saying that his goal was to create the greatest opening sequence of all time and it's pretty hard to argue that that isn't exactly what we got.
