Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is a solid sequel according to critics and fans alike, but it's also worth mentioning that those expecting James Gunn's superhero follow-up to wipe the floor with the original might be left a little underwhelmed.
Though it's effortlessly superior to most of the Marvel Cinematic Universe's sequels to date (not that this is saying all that much outside of the Captain America series), Vol. 2 largely can't find ways to improve upon the terrific original, falling somewhat short in a number of key areas and simply recycling too much of what worked the first time to undeniably diminished returns.
Gunn's first effort blew everyone's minds back in 2014, but three years later, his attempt at a bigger, better sequel ultimately settles for being good rather than great. Here's why, as is often the case, the original is still the best...
