Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 2: 25 WTF Moments

7. Ego's Effects Work

Now, don't get me wrong, some of the effects work that goes into capturing Kurt Russell's Ego is astonishing. The de-ageing effects from the promo are amazing and the sequence where Peter Quill blasts him apart is very good, for instance.

But there are other bits that are decidedly ropey, and really don't stand up to the rest of the film. When he's screaming in agony in a mid-transition energy form, it's like a goofy remake of the Dr Manhattan sequence in Watchmen (with a smaller budget), and his face appearing as a part of the planet is so reminiscent of The Return To Oz's goblin king sequence that it's incredibly distracting.

And whisper it, but the effects from that film - which came out more than 30 years ago - were actually better.
