23. Groot's Dance

After the marketing campaign heavily hyped the Abilisk sequence that would open the film, James Gunn pulled an inspired switcheroo by having Baby Groot dance to camera to ELO's Mr Blue Sky instead of showing the action. It's a bold, incredibly creative decision that immediately cements the mythology of the character and it's massively entertaining, but it's still shocking.

Imagine the nerve of spending that much money on effects and having it mostly play out in the background, with a fourth-wall breaking solo dance-off in focus instead.
