Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 2 Review: 8 Ups & 3 Downs

2. Groot - MVP

Baby Groot Guardians Of The Galaxy vol 2

One thing most fans will have predicted before the film came out is just how brilliant Baby Groot is and how much he steals the show when he's on-screen. The little guy is hilariously adorable in an almost unfeasible way, whether he's dancing during the Abilisk attack or he's being bullied by the Ravagers. Who would ever have thought that a little twig would be so bloody emotive?

The best thing really is that Gunn doesn't over-use him - which must have been hugely tempting. He's in the film no more than his team-mates, and he's not even at the centre of all the cool sequences. That's restrained film-making as it should be done (and the Despicable Me and Cars film-makers ought to heed the lesson).

The mid-credits scene that confirms that he grows into a difficult teaser is also a great touch.
