It now goes without saying that James Gunn is the king of MCU Easter Eggs: his first Guardians movie was jam-packed with references, in-jokes and Eggs that took months and years to find (including the one big one that nobody has found yet, apparently), and now he's teasing the same thing for the sequel, which hits British screens today.

Following on from the mystery egg that definitely does exist in the first movie (otherwise Gunn wouldn't have offered to pay a fan $100,0000 if it doesn't), there's going to now be an almighty hunt for this sequel's version. Talking to The Independent, Gunn was one more asked if there will be a similarly obscure easter egg in Vol. 2, to which he responded positively, without giving anything else away.

And as for the missing egg from Vol 1?

“I am not going to [reveal anything], but people have gotten very close. So, I don’t think it will be very long until it comes out.”

For any amateur sleuths out there, trying to use "people have gotten close" as a hint is remarkably useless, given the sheer number of theories on this egg.

And for anyone still feeling annoyed by the fact that the Easter Egg in the first movie remains unfound, we might be getting closer to Gunn himself revealing it:
