Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 Trailers: 7 Reasons To Be Concerned About The Film

6. Recycling Jokes From The First Movie

The trailers for Vol. 2 feature multiple instances of jokes being recycled, in another example of Guardians seemingly cribbing directly from other movies - only this time, it's cribbing from itself. Plot twist!

We've got somebody trying to have a normal discussion with Drax, and him blurting out an offensive comment. Then there's Groot misunderstanding Rocket's plan and causing trouble in the process, just like he did in the prison in the first movie. Would anyone be surprised if, at some point during the film, Rocket jokingly mentions that he needs someone's prosthetic penis to 'complete his plan'?

Hopefully, this doesn't indicate the film will be full of throwbacks and recurring gags, lacking the creative comedy its predecessor had. There's nothing wrong with laughs, and we hope Vol 2. has plenty of them, but it's hard to find something funny when you've seen it before - in the same franchise, no less.

If these two incidents are isloated then it shouldn't be a problem, but if the sequel consistently devolves into an almost meta, self-referential style of humour, it could become facepalm-worthy long before it becomes funny.

He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
