Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 Trailers: 7 Reasons To Be Concerned About The Film
5. Is Gamora Being Sidelined?
Marvel don't exactly have the best track record with female characters, with Black Widow being the notable exception - and even she is considered one of the least-important Avengers. Jane Foster and Pepper Potts have apparently been axed from the MCU entirely, which tells you all you need to know.
Admittedly, Gamora fared rather well in the first Guardians Of The Galaxy, being both strong and charming in equal measure, but early signs are pointing to a substantially weaker role in the sequel for the green heroine, continuing Marvel's long-running lady-problem.
From the main crew, she's the only one to not be given a snippet of dialogue, or a moment to shine, in either trailer - all she's done is run away from a spaceship, and stab a giant squid. Even Mantis, an unknown, new addition to the cast, has been given more to do thus far, and this is a frustrating reminder of Marvel's inability to pay enough attention to their female leads.
So far, it looks as though she's just there to provide Quill with a romantic interest, which in and of itself is a pretty forced dynamic - not every movie needs a love subplot, Hollywood! Fortunately it's still early days and Gamora could be the best part of the whole movie, but right now, it doesn't look too promising.
