Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol 3 Review: 6 Ups & 4 Downs

2. The High Evolutionary Is A Detestable Villain

The movie's primary antagonist is the High Evolutionary (Chukwudi Iwuji) - the creator of Rocket who has God-like delusions of creating a perfect society.

While he certainly doesn't rank among the MCU's best villains, he's nevertheless one of the franchise's easiest-to-loathe antagonists.

This in large part because Gunn doesn't make any effort to give the High Evolutionary a sentimental sob story that rationalises his actions - he's just a horrible, evil a**hole, and that's it.

And yet, Chukwudi Iwuji's performance is menacing-yet-nuanced enough that he doesn't feel one-dimensional or overly simplistic as villains go.

Nothing about his motives are particularly unique, but sometimes a Big Bad who's just very, very bad is all you need, and to that end he more than delivers the goods.
