Guy Pearce Joins Iron Man 3 As Dr. Aldrich Killian

Pearce would play a genius scientist who was a key player in the Warren Ellis 2005 comic book storyline "Extremis", which is all but confirmed as being the blueprint for Iron Man 3.

Iron Man 3 is gearing up to start filming next month in North Carolina and casting news is coming in thick and fast now. On the back of the news a fortnight ago that Ben Kingsley will play the villain, comes news from Variety that Guy Pearce is close to taking a role in the next chapter of Marvel's ever-expanding filmic universe. Pearce would play Dr. Aldrich Killian in the film, a genius scientist who was a key player in the Warren Ellis 2005 comic book storyline "Extremis", which is all but confirmed as being the blueprint for Iron Man 3. Killian works at Futurepharm with Maya Hansen where the Extremis virus is developed through nanobots and forces the human brain to re-work the healing center and become stronger. The virus was developed for the military but they instead hand it over to terrorists. So it's a baddie part basically and one that Pearce will be able to play with ease. No word on who will play Maya Hansen just yet but we imagine casting is imminent. Meanwhile there is still no confirmation on what villain Kingsley will play but we suspect it is Mallen, who is responsible for the nanobots who take over Tony Stark€™s DNA. Shane Black (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang) directs based on a script he developed with writer Drew Pearce (No Heroics). Robert Downey Jr (as Iron Man), Gwenyth Paltrow (Pepper Potts), Don Cheadle (Rhodes) and possibly Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow) will reprise their roles from the previous film. Iron Man 3 is due May 3rd, 2013.
