Gyllenhaal and Witherspoon cast for "Rendition"

lg1b.jpgJake Gyllenhaal and Reese Witherspoon will star opposite each other in Gavin Hood's Middle East political thriller Rendition. Hood was responsible for the Oscar winning Tsotsi and will be hoping for similar acclaim in this movie which is set to begin production in mid Novemeber. The movie follows Gyllenhaal as a CIA agent who witnesses the brutal torture of an Egyptian-born US Citizen that has been sent to a third world country on suspicion of terroism. He decides the right thing to do is to save the guy and his pregant American wife (Witherspoon), risking his own life in the process. Well it just has Oscar potential written all over it with Hood and Witherspoon recently picking up the award and Gyllenhaal being nominated last year. Is anyone sick of this type of serious political movie (e.g. The Constant Gardner) or do you think they carry worthy messages that need to be told? source - variety, coming soon
