Halloween 2018: Everything We Know So Far
4. The Film Is Unrelated To Halloween Returns
This isn't the first attempt to get a new Michael Myers movie off the ground since Rob Zombie's 2009 sequel. Reports of a film tentative titled Halloween Returns began to circulate in 2015 after a 3D project died a death due to funding issues.
Series producer Malek Akkad was overseeing this one, and it was billed as "re-calibration" of the franchise which would have pitted Myers against an all-new gang of Haddonfield youths many years on from his original killing spree.
This idea fell apart when Dimension Films lost the rights to Halloween in December that year. Although Akkad still has a producer credit, the 2018 movie bears no relation to Halloween Returns. The slate has been wiped clean.
Miramax and Blumhouse Productions are developing the new film, which Universal Pictures will distribute, marking its first involvement with the series since Halloween III.
