Halloween: 8 Reasons Why Michael Myers Is The Ultimate Horror Villain

6. His Near Silence

Rob Zombie remakes not included, Michael Myers hasn’t uttered a single word in his onscreen existence. We do hear him panting a lot which is freaky in itself as, thanks to his face being covered up, we can never tell if his panting is a product of excitement, or anger - or if it’s just really hot inside that mask.

Bar his heavy breathing, Michael is virtually mute. His wordlessness is kind of understandable – he has, after all, spent the vast majority of his life either in an institution or in isolation, biding his time until he kills again.

What’s strange about Michael’s silence is that he doesn’t utter a peep even when he’s putting his back into and knifing somebody to death – not a grunt, not a snarl, not even so much as a whisper. It’s the same when he’s injured too – not once does he cry out in pain or distress. His silence even in high stress moments is disquieting, to say the least.

His creators John Carpenter and Debra Hill could’ve had Michael talk, perhaps even equipped him with a memorable catchphrase. But contrast his silence with more vocal horror villains like Freddy Krueger, who can’t stop cackling and wise-cracking his way through his kills, or Chucky from Child’s Play - who similarly never shuts the hell up - and it’s clear Michael’s silent psychopathy is far more unnerving and effective.
