Halloween: 8 Reasons Why Michael Myers Is The Ultimate Horror Villain
4. His Weapon Of Choice
As a resourceful serial killer, Michael Myers doesn’t limit himself to just one weapon. He’s quite happy to use whatever he has to hand to off his victims and over the course of his forty years in film he’s employed many ingenious means to kill, including telephone cords, ice skates, pitchforks, a camera tripod and even his own bare hands a few times.
His signature weapon, however, is the humble kitchen knife. A run-of-the-mill knife might not spark the same kind of terror as Leatherface’s roaring chainsaw or the intricacy of Jigsaw’s death traps, but let’s face it – good quality chainsaws are expensive and not everybody has the engineering skills needed to build Jigsaw’s gruesome gadgets.
By contrast, a knife is terrifying in how normal and accessible it is. Not everybody has a chainsaw or a reverse beartrap laying around their house, but everyone has at least a few kitchen knives kicking about just waiting to fall into the wrong hands of a psychopath like Michael.
Not to mention that a knife like Michael’s entails a more up-close and personal kind of kill. He isn’t keeping a distance from his victims and avoiding getting his hands dirty by using a gun, for example. Terrifyingly, Michael prefers instead to get up close to his victims so he can see their horrified reaction and witness their death throes. It’s intimate, personal and absolutely petrifying.
