Halloween: 8 Reasons Why Michael Myers Is The Ultimate Horror Villain
1. He’s A Plausible Villain
It’s fair to say that some of Michael Myers’ traits are a tad hard to swallow. He seems to possess a superhuman level of durability and, over the course of the Halloween franchise, he’s survived being stabbed and shot multiple times, alongside getting blown up, electrocuted, and beaten with a lead pipe.
We are in the realm of horror movies, however, so some farfetchedness is to be expected and in Michael’s defence he has spent time in a couple of comas recovering from his various injuries, so it’s not like he’s entirely invulnerable.
But for all his seemingly superhuman strength and Dr Loomis’ talk of him having the devil’s eyes and the like, Michael is still a more plausible villain than most. He’s not a zombie, or a vampire, or a demonic killer clown or some other such villain that takes a massive stretch of the imagination to believe in. He’s just a man who really, really wants to kill.
His signature weapon is plausible and so is his stomping ground – familiar suburban surrounds are far more believable than, say, the furthest unexplored reaches of deep space, or nuclear wastelands populated by mutated inbreeds.
And that’s what really makes Michael Myers the ultimate horror villain – he’s not totally beyond the bounds of believability. He might be the bogeyman, but he’s a very real one.
