Halloween: Every Franchise Easter Egg And Reference Explained

7. Mrs. Elrod And An Incendiary Finale - Halloween II (1981)

Halloween Michael Myers
Universal

The sister twist may have been written out of continuity by this film, but it still does plenty to honor the memory of Rick Rosenthal's Halloween II.

During the already iconic long take of Michael walking through the streets of Haddonfield and killing people, he stumbles upon a woman in a red bathrobe watching television and cutting ham. This is a replication of one of the opening sequences of Halloween II, pretty much verbatim. In Halloween II, the woman's name was Mrs. Elrod and Michael sneaks into her house and steals the butcher knife which she is using to cut ham.

In the new film, Michael straight-up murders Mrs. Elrod with a hammer and then takes a butcher knife which she was using to cut ham to boot.

The other big reference point the new film takes from the original Halloween II is having Michael caught in a fire at the end of the film. Notably, Halloween II showed audience's Michael explicitly burning to a crisp, while the new film never shows him actually being engulfed by the flames himself.
