6. Halloween: The Return of Michael Myers (1988, Dwight H. Little)
Laurie Strode, the long suffering baby sister of masked psychopath Michael Myers, is dead. Sadly for Michael, though, she died not by his hands but instead in a horrific car accident - or so we're told. What the filmmakers should have said was Jamie Lee Curtis wanted to distance herself from her scream queen past and so refused to return to the franchise for a third time. It seems she was only really willing to return when her career was on a downturn, hence her appearances in parts 7 and 8. With Laurie dead, Michael turns his attention to her orphaned daughter who has been living in foster care ever since her parents passed away. Despite the name change, Michael is able to locate his niece and slowly begins to murder those around her. Despite his attempts to kill young Jamie, the finale of the movie suggests that Myers is perhaps trying to set his niece up as his successor- even going as far as to have the girl dressed in the same clown outfit Michael wears in the 1978 original when she murders her foster mother with a pair of scissors for no apparent reason. Halloween 4 saw the return of Michael Myers to the franchise after the failure of part 3 at the box office. The original Halloween 4 had been slated to be a ghost story, but the outcry from fans at changing the format with each passing movie was enough to convince the studio to bring the series home to Haddonfield.
