Han Solo Movie: 5 Reasons To Be Excited (And 5 To Be Worried)
Excited...
5. Ron Howard Is More Than Just A Safe Pair Of Hands
After the sacking of Lord and Miller, Ron Howard became the immediate frontrunner to take charge of the project, something that was confirmed in June of last year. Howard oversaw the remaining few weeks of production, but ended up redoing much more of the film than anticipated, with some reports claiming it was around 80% of the movie.
That means his stamp will be on it far more than Lord and Miller's, and while the duo have a more obviously recognisable style, Howard is more than just the safe pair of hands he was brought in to be.
Sure he's made a few clunkers, especially with the Robert Langdon films, but you just have to look at Apollo 13 to see that he can nail space-set drama, or 2013's Rush for a glimpse of how brilliantly he can capture vehicle-based action. Imagine something like the Kessel Run with the visual flair of Rush, and it's clear Howard is cause for excitement beyond plain old reliability.
There's also his comedic chops to consider. Howard cut his teeth as an actor on sitcoms, and displayed those talents later as the narrator of Arrested Development. He may not be thought of as a comedy director in the way Lord and Miller are, but he does have strong comedic sensibilities and a knack for timing, which should help imbue this movie with plenty of humour.
