Han Solo Movie: 5 Reasons To Be Excited (And 5 To Be Worried)

4. Lawrence Kasdan Is Writing It

Lawrence Kasdan is the greatest writer Star Wars has ever had. Heck, he's an all-time great outside the franchise's context too, having written Raiders of the Lost Ark as well as The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, and The Force Awakens (alongside J.J. Abrams).

He's also the man writing the Han Solo movie, along with his son Jon. Back when Lucasfilm were planning their new projects, Kasdan was offered his pick of potential projects and selected Han. That alone is cause for some optimism, because Kasdan is the man who helped bring more complexity to Han across Empire and Return, and did it again decades later with The Force Awakens.

That he chose Han is indicative of the love he has for the character, but also that he clearly feels there's a really interesting story to be told there. And if anyone can flesh out a younger version of the character in a worthwhile way, and delivering an exciting and emotional movie experience, it's Kasdan. He knows this world and this character specifically, but he's also able to craft brilliant drama, human relationships, and sprinkle it all with humour.
