Han Solo Will Probably Be A Teenager In His Star Wars Spinoff
Screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan reveals the time period, and not much else.
More than anything with this slew of spinoffs that Disney and Lucasfilm are prepping for us, fans are curious about a) who the hell they're going to get to play younger versions of their fan-favourite characters, and b) when the hell these films are going to be set exactly. With the case of the Han Solo spinoff, it's obvious that it would take place after Revenge Of The Sith, and before A New Hope - and now we know precisely when. Franchise stalwart and screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan has appeared on Empire's spoiler podcast to comment on where exactly the Han Solo film he's working on will land in the series' timeline, and the answer may or may not surprise you.
"It will not be heres where he was born and this is how he was raised. I think what it will be is, what was he like 10 years earlier , maybe a little earlier, youll get a glimpse."So there you have it. This definitely jibes with what we heard about the absolute smorgasbord of actors who are auditioning for the role, in that those being looked at are aged between 18 and 30. Although, if it's really a 30-year old actor that ends up in the part, they'd have to have a pretty damn young-looking face in order to pull off the sense that they're ten years younger than Harrison Ford in the first Star Wars. Either way, now we know the time frame of the movie, that opens itself up to a whole host of cool storytelling opportunities - perhaps we'll even see Han do that infamous Kessel Run.
