Happy Death Day 2U Review: 4 Ups & 6 Downs

Ups...

4. Jessica Rothe's Show-Stealing Performance

Happy Death Day 2U Jessica Rothe
Universal

As with the first film, lead actress Jessica Rothe lights up the screen with her peppy, energetic presence, anchoring the film in even its worst moments.

The material isn't as good this time around, but she sells it with all her heart regardless and is easily the main reason the movie works at all.

It's honestly surprising that Rothe hasn't blown up over the last 18 months since the release of the first film: she's starred in nothing significant since and has just one movie in post-production at present.

Given the charm offensive she brings to the table in both of these films, she desperately needs to take advantage of her easy appeal, and maybe get herself a better agent too.
